Someone to Daydream About is a contemporary romance novel that follows the journey of Natalie, a deaf teenager, as she teaches American Sign Language (ASL) to a boy called Felix.

The story portrays the characters as they experience love, personal growth, and eventually come to understand one another. The struggles the characters experience throughout the novel—differences in communication, anxieties, and relational challenges that anyone might face—help the characters become multidimensional, and the plot becomes in-depth.

Sydney Langford is a Deaf author who draws from their personal experiences to help and tell stories of underrepresented communities. Indeed, in their work, they capture and portray the nuances of everyday relationships and emotions well, making the stories relatable to their readers.

Langford especially excels at naturally weaving disability and diversity into the lives and emotions of their characters, portraying them not as “different” but as ordinary people who love, grapple with life’s challenges, and grow, just like any others.
